Thanksgiving, originally known as Thanksgiving, is an autumn holiday celebrated annually on the second Monday of October in Canada. It will therefore take place on Monday, Although it is more commonly celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November, the traditional date of Thanksgiving is, in both Canada and the United States, originally a celebration giving thanks to God, while highlighting the harvests carried out following the summer season. Some of the more American traditions of the holiday, such as the turkey meal, were incorporated into Canada with the arrival of the British Loyalists after the independence of the United States. This animal, one of the first discovered by explorers who landed in the New World, is usually the one around which families gather for a feast that allows everyone to take stock of the year. To this end, the holiday now has a more secular character and is for many the occasion of a last statutory holiday before the beginning of winter and the holiday season. Several organizations traditionally use Thanksgiving to distribute meals to homeless people in urban centers. Businesses are allowed to open without restrictions for Thanksgiving. However, credit unions and banks are closed, as are most administrative offices. SAQ branches will be open, except for those located in shopping centers, which will be closed.
